In our 19th year, PHA is proud to kick off Comfort & Joy 2026, our beloved contest in which the winner receives an energy efficient Trane heating and air system, professionally installed free-of-charge.

While there are no income-qualifying restrictions, charity is the heart and soul of this contest and our wish is that the system goes to a truly deserving home.

Do you or someone you know have an old system that barely works and drives up the utility bills? Or maybe your system isn’t working at all, and repair or replacement costs are out of reach? If so, you may be the perfect candidate!

We welcome you to nominate yourself or a loved one in need of a new heating & air system professionally installed by the area's most reputable HVAC company this winter. Accepting applications November 1st through December 3rd.

We are so blessed to be able to give back to the community in this way and look forward to crowning this year’s winner!

How does it work?

You may nominate yourself or another deserving individual by completing the Comfort & Joy Application. Please submit online or stop by our office in Hayes for a physical copy!
Five (5) finalists are selected via random drawing on December 3rd and will require a site visit to confirm eligibility.
The winner is drawn completely at random live on the radio, with the help of Xtra 99.1 FM.

Things to keep in mind:

The winner must own their home.
The home must be within PHA’s service area.
The nominee/homeowner must live in the residence full-time.
Mobile homes must be titled to the nominee.
The home must have an existing ducting system in reasonably good repair.
Only one (1) system will be installed.
No Oil Boilers or Oil Furnaces

Previous Winners

Gary Crawford - 2025

After being a finalist in the 2024 Comfort & Joy drawing, Mr. Crawford nominated himself again in 2025. Gary, his wife, and their daughter had been in separate car accidents and were constantly having issues with their well supply shortly after. With all of this, they could not tackle the necessary repairs needed for the HVAC system. It was constantly making loud noises and running inconsistently. Luck was finally in their favor as PHA was blessed enough to randomly select two winners to receive a brand new heating and air system this year. We were so happy to finally give the Crawford family some good news that they greatly deserved.

Christopher Vanvalkenburg - 2025

Family of 6, The Vanvalkenburgs, had a 16 year old heat pump system that had been repaired several times but yet every year something “stops, leaks, or breaks”. Christopher’s family was nominated by his sister-in-law. She wanted them to have the reliable heat they needed to support Mrs. VanValkenburg's health and the kids' comfort. Being able to meet and provide this cheerful family with a dependable home comfort system was a pleasure!

Joshua Colonna - 2024

Mr. Colonna, his wife, and their baby had recently moved into a home in Hayes that was in rough shape. While trying to remodel with only one income, their existing system started making loud noises. This resulted in high electric bills and low comfort. Upon receiving the call that they won Comfort & Joy, The Colonnas were so excited to finally have a comfortable home for their family.

Krizma Arthur - 2023

The Arthurs were nominated by their friend and neighbor, Mrs. Russ. The Arthurs reside in Gloucester and have two daughters. In September of 2023, their lives changed forever as their 12-year old daughter, Peyton, was diagnosed with pediatric leukemia. Per Mrs. Russ, "The Arthur family has shown amazing strength, grace, bravery, and love throughout this all... They have never complained and always have a smile on their face, and are always offering to help others." During all of this, they started having issues with their HVAC system. In the words of Mrs. Russ, "No family should have to worry about something as simple as heat while they are fighting for their child's life." The Arthurs were so thankful upon winning and truly touched our hearts.
